Why You Should Be Excited For the Fall

I might add, this is extremely basic.

Don't get me wrong, I love summer. But, as we're approaching our last few weeks of it, I can't help but get giddy at the thought of all the things this semester will bring. The following is a list filled with the 10 best things this fall will bless us with in order to get you as excited as I am. If you're still not excited after reading, go get yourself checked out because something is very wrong with you.

1. Football

Duh. Whether it's watching it on the big screen each Sunday or going to home games on campus, nothing can replace the feeling only a football game can give.

1.5. Tailgates

This basically falls right under football games, but I felt it was obligatory to include. Getting dressed up all cute, hanging out with good friends, and don't forget those perfect Instagram pics tailgates provide us with.

2. Yoga Pants/Leggings

Don't listen to the naysayers who tell you they aren't pants. Will we perform any yoga or physical exercise in them? Probably not. But they're just so comfy.

3. Bath & Body Works Everything

Endless supplies of fall scented candles, lotions, body spray, etc. I want it all.

4. Homecoming

Basically one of the most happening weeks of the year filled with nights you'll never forget (or not even remember).

5. Halloween

Um... yes? Finding the perfect costume gives me life. Scary movies, limitless candy, haunted houses... they only come once a year. Then right after that is Thanksgiving, and then of course Christmas, so Halloween is basically the start of the holiday season.

6. Pumpkin Everything

Well, pumpkin spice lattes for one. And don't forget the perfect date night at the pumpkin patch where there's no limit on cute pics to take.

7. Bonfires

Sure, you might have to be power sprayed to get the smell of smoke off, but it's worth the nights surrounded by a cozy fire, friends, and a good beer (or multiple).

8. Bomb Outfits

My riding boots need to get out of my closet and onto my feet. The scarves, vests, flannel... the options never end.

8.5.Photoshoots

Can I just add along with cute outfits that fall gives us every excuse possible to have mini photoshoots or just take selfies in general? Instagram gets real.

9. The Weather/Colors

Say goodbye to the unbearably hot days where you can't spend longer than five minutes outside and say hello to literally perfect weather. The trees changing colors basically means everyone is now a professional photographer.

10. The Excitement

There's holiday after holiday, never ending festivities, hay rides, concerts, get togethers, etc. Going back to school gives us a fresh start to get our lives together and to make new friends (and memories of course). Everyone is just happier during the fall.

So there you have it. Just a few of the highlights of the fall semester that is yet to come. Let's make it the best one yet.

A Few Thoughts Every College Freshman Has

The transition into adulthood is never easy

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
