5 Truths You Don’t Wanna Hear

In This Article:

I've learned a few lessons in my short time on earth. I think the most important thing I've learned is that I need to be honest with myself and accept what's out of my control. This has helped me mature and grow, and it will help you.

1. You can't be happy all the time.

Forced positivity is actually really dangerous. You're a human being with emotions. If you get mad, sad, frustrated, or annoyed you should be able to feel that emotion.

Stuffing your feelings into a box only causes resentment toward the issue, and you haven't solved the issue. Allow yourself to feel that emotion, learn from it, and then move forward.

2. Your ego is feeding your anxiety.

Basically, you think you're more important than you actually are. This is an incredibly common problem that you and nearly 8 billion others share.

Our lives have value and purpose, but our egos convince us that if we don't achieve perfection, the world suffers a consequence.

This is far from the truth. I find it so relieving to remind myself I'm not important because it means I can make mistakes. We are human, and we're meant to learn from our mistakes. Mistakes are vital to growing and maturing.

3. There is good and bad in everyone.

Yes, even your greatest enemies have redeemable qualities. And your idols aren't perfect. Assuming someone is entirely one label is dangerous because you set up a blinder for yourself, and won't see them for who they really are.

4. You gain nothing from complaining.

Complaining due to circumstances achieves nothing. Never once have I accomplished a task, gained sympathy, or helped myself in any way by complaining. All it does is worsen my mood, and annoy the people around me.

5. Life isn't fair or unfair, it simply is.

You are going to suffer. You are going to love. There are good days and bad days. Life isn't set up to be fair or unfair for anyone. Everyone experiences good and bad in life, and that's just the way it is. Accept the good and bad days as they come.

6 Unrealistic Expectations Society Has For Young Adults

Don't let the thesaurus-inspired vocabularies in our résumés fool you. We're actually just big kids.

Well over four feet tall and 100 pounds in weight, many of us "young adults" of the world still consider ourselves children. Big, working, college-attending, beer-drinking children. We may live on our own, know how to cook noodles, and occasionally use a planner, but don't be fooled; the youthful tendencies that reside within us still make their way into our daily lives. From choosing to stay up until 3:00 a.m. playing video games on a school night to going out in 30 degree weather without a coat, we still make decisions that our parents and grandparents would shake their heads at in disappointment. So why are we expected to know exactly how to be a wise, professional, sensible adult? It's not that we're irresponsible (for the most part, anyway). It's that we are young, inexperienced, and still have the sought-after, enthusiastic mentality that we can do and be whatever we want, which has not yet been tarnished by the reality of the world. These are just a few of the unrealistic expectations that society has for young adults.

There are a lot of foods in this world, but there is only one dish that stands above the rest: Pizza. If you're close to me or at least know who I am, then you know that I'm totally obsessed with pizza. It's one of my favorite things to eat and I will NEVER turn down a slice, even if it doesn't have my favorite toppings. There isn't a day that goes by where I'm not thinking about pizza. I even sleep with a pizza pillow every night! There are many reasons why pizza stands above all other foods, and here are just a couple reasons why.
