1. Try to make at least one friend in each of your classes.
Odds are you are probably going to struggle in your classes at some point; it makes it easier if you have a friend to struggle with or to help you.
2. Even the best students will struggle, but that's totally OK.
Being a straight-A student most of the time and always being used to doing well in school really set me up for a shock in college. I struggled at multiple things, but that is totally normal. In the end, everything was fine.
3. Just because someone from your high school goes to the same college as you doesn't mean y'all should be friends.
Honestly, even if your best friend made it to the same college as you, that doesn't mean you should limit yourself to just them. College is your chance to explore; don't cling to the past too much.
4. Just because that football player is cute doesn't make up for his bad personality.
Honestly, I know the idea of dating a cute athlete, and going to all of their games is a great idea, it doesn't mean that you should. It doesn't matter how cute they are if their personality sucks.
5. You need to study.
Coming from someone who had never had to study before college, you need to study. If you don't know how to study, ask for help and learn what works best for you, but it needs to be a regular thing.
6. It's OK to ask for help.
Coming from someone who is stubborn and independent, sometimes you just have to ask for help. It's totally OK to admit you're struggling; that's the first step to fixing the problem.
7. Freshmen 15 is a real thing.
I was a skeptic, until it happened. Eat healthy, work out, and take care of yourself. You aren't getting any younger.
8. Nothing good happens after midnight.
I know staying up with friends, partying or whatever can be fun, but honestly sleep is so important. Know your limits, and keep a healthy balance between sleep and fun.
9. Keeping your parents updated is important.
They miss you, and they want to know what's happening, so keep them in the loop.
10. Make your time count.
Do big things, step out of your comfort zone, and grow as a person. You don't want to look back on your freshman year and realize that you wasted it doing stupid stuff.
Make your time count because time is one thing you can't get back.
