Maybe the revolution WILL be televised.
We people who are darker than blue have a story to tell.
Correction, a story that has been told and repeats itself.
Maybe Kendrick taught Kaepernick how to pimp a butterfly because the effects of his “sit-down” to “stand-up” are reverberating in eardrums and cerebellums,
Crossing more minds because eyes can't un-see the footage.
“This land is your land, this land is my land.”
With that being said, I don't want you to forget that Black people are embedded in the infrastructure of this society.
This country’s wealth was built off of our backs and the works of our hands.
Three-fifths were made whole in 1865,
And made to live” separate but equal” lives until 1965.
We let you skate until 1968 when voting rights had to be mandated,
Fair housing had to be spelled out in legal terms,
Because the jargon keeps changing when it comes to us.
So don't tell any African-American if they don't like it here they can leave.
We've fought to hard to get to where we are now and we aren't done.
We know our worth,
We know our contributions,
And we know our problems.
We are perfectly different.
Our Black girls are magic,
Our music gives you life,
Our athletes dominate.
We are more complex than the sum of your fears.
We are more than candidates for your appropriation.
If “the only thing we have to fear is fear itself,”
Show me.
If “the test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little.”
Prove it.
Not only to me but to them.
You know their names.
Trayvon Martin.
Tamir Rice.
Michael Brown.
Eric Garner.
Alton Sterling.
Philando Castille.
Sandra Bland.
You know where many of the issues lie.
Ferguson.
Baltimore.
Detroit.
Chicago.
Oakland.
You know the statics.
Ninety-three percent of black homicide victims were killed by other blacks, while 84 percent of white murder victims were white.
The ratio may be higher but the number of White murderers exceeds Black murderers.
White people commit more crimes than Black people because they have the largest population.
There are 1.4 million black men in college right now, and there are about 840,000 black men in prison.
Stop using stats to make educated Black men a myth and the Black community a dystopia.
If you really want to be a part of the solution,
Start by being honest with yourself.
