During the last week of school, all everyone has been talking about are finals, papers, and projects. We have finally got through them all though. The entire freshman year of college.
It honestly is a relief for me personally. Before starting college, many of my friends who were already college students told me that college was going to be a fresh start. That it was going to be drama-free.
Well. They were wrong.
Maybe it was just me. Maybe I'm some sort of magnet for drama. All I know is: my college life was filled with so much drama, I was even more stressed out about the drama that was going on than academic issues.
Going through high school, most of us have encountered situations that involved conflicts of interest that led to tiny or big dramas unfolding right in front of us. Whether it be some boy problem that we keep talking to our best friends about or failing that one quiz. The list of problems went on and on. There wasn't a minute to breathe.
College was supposed to be drama-free. Things were supposed to be easier. However, as college presented itself to me: it wasn't.
The drama went on day by day. New situations keep piling on and on. The drama between friends. The boy problems. The academic race. None of it stopped. It's as if your four years of college is a marathon to get through.
A lot of people have the assumption that being a part of Greek life gives you the most drama. However, what they don't know is that it's definitely not true. Although I've heard a lot of drama going on within the Greek life system, I've also heard a lot going on just within campus between people.
We were told that things were going to be easier. We were told that life was going to get better. Lies. Lies. Lies. Life continues to throw us every challenge that is possible in this cruel world. All we can do is stand by and watch it happen. All we can do is try to figure everything out as they happen.
Often times, we have some sort of support system. We have our best friends to rely on and to talk to about our problems. Other times, we have resources on campus to help us out, such as the residential staff. However, there are also times when we are left to fend for ourselves. Even when we're put in this position, we always tend to figure it out. When we're faced in this sort of situation, the first thing that we tend to do is panic. But what we need to keep in mind is that we can get through this, just like everything else that we have faced in our lives thus far, and we can figure out a solution to the situation, then keep moving forward.
