Finals have come and gone at UAH. Going in, I was absolutely terrified. With all the horror stories, I didn't know what to believe or expect.
However, finals really aren't that bad. I had five, which was a lot compared to my friends. But it was spread out over two weeks, so I had time between days I had tests so I could prepare for the next ones.
Teachers were pretty good about laying out exactly what they wanted us to know during reviews, and most even told us that nothing would be on there that hadn't been reviewed that day. Even though it seemed like a lot to take in at one time, it was only a couple of basic parts of the major things we learned so it was easy to connect.
The goal of most professors isn't to make us fail. Aside from a select few, they want us to succeed in college and learn things maybe even they didn't know. Not to mention that it looks bad on them if everyone does bad.
In high school, most texts counted for 20-30% of the final grade all together and there were probably 10-12 of them. In college, each test counts a large percentage of your grade, and the final counts the same or just a couple of points higher than the others. The final doesn't weigh heavily like I was so used to.
So all in all, finals aren't the beast everyone makes them out to be. If you pay attention throughout the semester and actually take time, you don't have to pull all-nighters and you won't be too stressed. Congrats to college students for making it through another finals week!
