To be honest, trusting in Jesus seems to be much easier said than done, and God did not intend it to be that way. However, we have made it such a hard thing to do. We don’t put our faith in what the Lord promises. He promises that He will never give us more than what we can handle, and He will never leave nor forsake us.
So why is it so hard for us to trust in what He says?
Here is a simple answer to this question. It’s hard to put our faith and trust in Jesus because our sinful nature tells us that we should solve our own problems by ourselves. However, Jesus tells us to cast all our cares on Him. He bears the weight of our sin. He makes us spotless children of God. Without Jesus, we would eternally be separated from God.
It seems that everyone has the mindset of being independent. Independence is a good thing when you talk about growing up and becoming an adult. You are no longer dependent on your parents, but you are becoming dependent on yourself. We sometimes take that mindset, and we apply it to our spiritual walk with God. We feel the need to be independent from God until something tragic happens in our lives. Sometimes the Lord allows for those things to happen to remind you that He is good and that He alone is in control.
But why does it take something so tragic to remind us of God’s sovereignty?
My answer is simple... I don’t know. Like I said, our sin nature is very convincing. It tells us that we should rely on ourselves and no one else. I will tell you that nothing has meaning and nothing will be truly satisfying unless God is at the center of it. The Lord is so great, and He has so much love for us. He wants us to turn to Him for everything. He knows you better than you know yourself. The Bible tells us that He even knows the number of hairs we have on our head.
As a believer, trusting in Him is the only thing that will bring you peace. This world is not our home, so rely on the Father whom we are seeking for all eternity. Bring glory, praise, and honor to His precious and holy name. He alone is worthy of praise, and He alone is whom we should place our trust.
Jesus, I give you all that I have. No more running. No more hiding. No more independence. I am trusting in you.
I have decided to follow Jesus. No turning back... no turning back.
