Trusting In God's Perfect Timing

Let go and let God

Trusting In God's Perfect Timing

God's plan is one of the hardest things to trust in since His timing is not always our timing. Most of the time when we want something, we want it right now. I know I have prayed my heart out for things that God decided were not meant to be. I know that as an anxious person that likes to be in control of everything, this is one of the hardest things to live out. But the peace you find when you decide to trust is like the serenity you find in a nice long nap.

This trust involves a lot of waiting, and it feels like an eternity. You go through spirals of depression and anxiety and question why you have to feel like this. When you feel like this, look to God and offer him your suffering. Today, too many people suffer alone instead of turning to God. They wake up every morning and put on a mask to disguise their real feelings. Social media and our culture have made us live our lives superficially. We need to dig deep and love and live life deeply because this is where you will find God and trust in His timing.

"Jesus replied, 'You do not understand what I am doing, but someday you will.'" John 13:7

We don't have to understand what is going on in our lives to find peace. We just need to keep living the life that God has planned out for us. Yes, you are going to make mistakes, but it is all part of the plan and how you grow.

'When the time is right, I, the Lord will make it happen" Isaiah 60:22

We make plans every day, but God's plan and purpose for you will prevail above all. In the midst of adversity and hate, God's plan for you is unfolding. We need to stop worrying about what will happen and what has happened. We need to live in the moment because what will be and what was has already been planned out.

"Be still and know that I am God." Psalm 46:10

It is the complete opposite of what we want to do when we are faced with a challenge. We want to solve the problem immediately and live our lives happily. But it is about the journey, not the destination. Why be anxious when what is meant to be will happen anyways. Turn to God and offer Him your sorrows and grief and you will find peace, even if things do not turn out the way you hoped.

Now I know that when I long for something or am struggling through something, I need to pray for God's peace. I learned that I need to let go and let God. Instead of focusing on my wants or the problem at hand, I need to trust in God's perfect timing and truly believe that everything happens for a reason. We have to trust that there is a greater plan even though we cannot grasp it.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
