Trusting God In The Future

Are you really trusting God in your future?

Trusting God In The Future
Catherine Linnihan

I just came back from freshmen orientation at Mississippi College, and as I was on my way home I started to try to unpack all the information I received in the two day time period while I was there.

I started to think about what took place the last morning during worship. One of the directors of Christian Development mentioned about what they are focused on, which is Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; think about Him in all your ways, and He will guide you on the right paths" (HCSB). Think about that. If we just trust in Him, He will make our paths straight; but if we do not trust in Him, our paths will not be straight because we do not know the best things for us.

Right now in my life, I am about to start this new journey in college where a lot of various things in my future and life are uncertain. I am currently learning how to fully trust in God with my future. I have so many decisions that I will have to be making, most of them just in the first semester of college. Sometimes we become caught up in our thoughts when we have to make a lot of decisions about our future.

I believe when we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord, we trust in Him with our life and future, but we often forget about trusting in Him with our future in certain times in our lives. When I was reminded of Proverbs 3:5-6, I realized that I was trying to decide on what I should and wanted to do in my first semester of college with picking my schedule, clubs, tribes, organizations, and churches. That night before going to bed, I had to surrender those decisions to the Lord because I knew that I could not make those decisions on my own.

Even if you are unsure at times about your future, there is always people who you can ask questions and talk to that can help you make a certain decision. Whether it be a professor, admissions counselor, or fellow student, people are always there to make sure everything goes the way God has planned and they are there to help you make that decision.

Will you trust God with your future? We always need to trust to in God with our lives because sometimes we might not know why things may happen, but we will eventually find out why God had that planned in our life. Even though I cannot see my all of my future for the first semester of college, I am positive that everything will go great and go according to God's will in my life.

Matthew 6:24 says, "Therefore don't worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own" (HCSB). Instead of worrying about our future, we need to worry about what we are doing in the moment each day. I believe if we start trusting in God like this, we will have a revival in this nation and in our communities to bring others to Christ.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
