Making America Great Again

My thoughts on Trump's victory, and the reactions of my fellow Americans.

Making America Great Again
Political Storm

The election is finally over, and with it all the hate. Or at least that is how it should be, but instead liberals and conservatives everywhere are losing their minds. Apparently, a lot of children voted in this election, because a lot of people cannot behave like adults. We have liberals who are attacking anyone who voted for Trump or a third party candidate, and we have conservatives proving that racism, sexism, and homophobia do still exist.

This election was heated, but I at least thought that everyone could return to normal after it was all over, no matter who won. It isn't like a Republican was never put into office. To the republicans, congratulations! You won, but that doesn't entitle you to act like 7th grade bullies. I have heard horror stories, from people I know, about how you guys are attacking anyone with skin that isn't "white," you are just proving to Hillary supporters why they hated your candidate. The first step to making people think you aren't racists homophobes, is by not acting like racists homophobes. You don't get to tell Hispanics to go back where they came from, and you don't get to tell Muslim women wearing Hijabs that she doesn't belong in America.

On the flip side, liberals are acting just as childish. Why would you riot after a presidential election? The people spoke, and just because they didn't agree with you doesn't mean you get to cry in the corner. Trump is our president, and whether you voted for him or not, he deserves respect. I honestly think he will be a good president, up until the election Trump had very moderate views. I think he said what he needed to in order to get elected, you know, like every other politician. I'm not saying his remarks against women didn't offend me, I'm just saying he knew his audience. I also don't think it's fair to use footage from years ago against someone, and cite that as a reason they shouldn't be president. If you want to go that route, Hillary stated she thought that LBGT people shouldn't have the right to get married. Since it was years ago, people can assume Hillary has changed. If you are going to give her benefit of the doubt, you should at least extend it to Trump.

And to everyone on Facebook deleting people who don't hold the same political beliefs of you, really? I'm over here fighting to prove that Millennials can be mature adults, and accept differing opinions. It's really hard to do that when you are all bragging about deleting Trump supports. If someone says something disrespectful towards you, and uses expletives, I understand that. Deleting people purely for voting for Trump, and being happy he won is different. That's pathetic. I have seen people get attacked just for being glad that Trump won, and this is coming from the people who have been defending freedom of speech since the beginning.

Both sides need to grow up. This is coming from someone who didn't care who won the election, because both sides were horrible. I wouldn't have been any happier if Hillary would have won, because I believe she is just as horrible a person as Trump. My hope is that in four years, Trump has made this country better than it is now, because all we can do with any candidate is be hopeful. The beautiful thing about America is, if in four years you hate him more than you do now, you get to choose someone else. You get to pick someone (Bernie) that isn't the lesser of two evils, but is a great candidate. We shot ourselves in the foot with this one. We could have had a great human that held all of our views, but not enough people voted in the primaries. We got stuck with "Killary," and that is why Trump won, because we chose the candidate that people couldn't stand behind; people including myself.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
