Not to make America Great Again... But to make it greater than it already is

The day of January 20th has rolled around once again. This historical day is often simply a cold day in the middle of January, however every four years the day takes on a meaning all its own; Inauguration Day for the incumbent President of The United States. In an election that brought up many mixed emotions and divided our country, we are left with Mr. Donald J. Trump to take the sworn oath of office as commander in chief. Although many people are extremely excited for our incoming President, others are fearful of this relative political outsider now holding our nations highest position of political power, and others simply don't know how to feel.

Growing up one thing was extremely certain to me; I came from a Republican household. With a father who acted as a small business owner and a mother who followed suit, it always seemed fitting to me that I too would one day grow up to be a staunch Republican. However, as I began to come of age myself, I realized that my somewhat liberal ideals may not always fit in with the Republican party, or even my own family.

This came to a head especially in the current election, when two candidates who seemed in many ways to be polar opposites fought a bitter and ruthless battle, one in which I found myself like many others trying to sort out my loyalty between my family's beliefs, and what my true beliefs actually were. When watching the election from my college dorm room I got a celebratory phone call from my father as he himself was a bit shocked that a man with no political experience, and often thoughts that isolated some of our countries population, had in fact won the Presidency over a woman who had been preparing her whole life to take the oath of office. I myself went to bed on election night in disbelief wondering what is next for our country.

In the months since I have come to realize many things. Although my father and I might not always see eye to eye on every political issue, we are both entitled to those opinions. We should not place blame on one another for holding those opinions, as the right of these opinions is one thing that makes our country of America ALREADY GREAT. Although Mr. Trump has made many members of our great country feel isolated, including sometimes myself, I believe our next President will begin to put aside his fiery personality, and yes, the dreaded twitter comments, and begin to work on making our beloved country even stronger for all citizens.

Change is often scary. As we are saying goodbye to the President who was in office during most of my formative years, we are opening the door to our next chapter. Although many people are uneasy for what is to come, this Republicans daughter is rooting for his success, as I hope he doesn't make America great again, but rather makes it greater than it already is.

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!

Recently I completed my freshman year of college, and boy, what an experience. It was a completely new learning environment and I can't believe how much I learned. In an effort to save time, here are the ten biggest lessons I learned from my first year of college.

1. Everyone is in the same boat

For me, the scariest part of starting school was that I was alone, that I wouldn't be able to make any friends and that I would stick out. Despite being told time and time again that everyone had these same feelings, it didn't really click until the first day when I saw all the other freshman looking as uneasy and uncomfortable as me. Therefore, I cannot stress this enough, everyone is feeling as nervous as you.
