I am not going to sit here and bash Donald J. Trump or the millions of Americans that voted for him or support him.
It is not the time for that.
I am not going to sit here and get angry with the results of the 2016 election, point fingers, or even give up on the United States and flee the country, which many Americans are doing.
It is not the time for that.
I do not care if you unfriend me, unfollow me, or even give me backlash for what I am about to express because this needs to be said, because right now, many Americans and even people around need to hear this.
Since the moment I realized that no other candidate even had even the chance to somehow miraculously beat Donald Trump I immediately became sad, and quite honestly, scared for, not even just our country, but for the world that we live in. Like many other Americans right now, I am scared for my family and friends that are members of the LBGT community, the black community, other women, and immigrants who came here to America to seek refugee from their home country that are experiencing things like war, and famine; things that we could only imagine of happening in the land of the free, who are currently questioning if they should leave because they are afraid of what our government might do to them.
It is not okay that I am getting texts messages and phone calls from friends and family saying that they are crying because someone who does not believe in basic human rights just became the next president of the supposedly freest place in the world. It is not okay that when I go on Twitter and Facebook that I see former classmates stating that they are scared for the future and what the next four years are going to entail for the same reasons that I am.
For those that do express the same opinion or feelings that I do, just remember it is extremely crucial that we get our voices heard and make sure that we continue to protect, respect, and have empathy for our loved ones and other Americans regardless if they are Muslim, Hispanic, gay, or even straight. Because right now, our voices and our concerns need to be heard before they repressed or even before people stop caring about what happens to a country that fought so long and hard to make sure that everyone that steps onto America’s soil is treated as equal individuals.
Yes, I know that we have a long way to go until true equality is achieved, but right now, we need to make sure that band together, push through this dark time in our world's history, and not let Trump return things to how they were 50 or even two years ago. This is an opportunity for us to become stronger as ever before, defeat the hate, show what truly matters to us, and as President Obama stated on Buzzfeed News to:
“…push ourselves and do even better.”
