It seems the biggest debate in the news this week became whether or not President Donald Trump should be allowed to run his own Twitter account. If so, then the next hot topic was whether or not it should be monitored by someone such as his campaign manager.
As I waited a 7:00 a.m. oil change, I listened to the countless rants of so many politicians, news anchors, & citizens. As I watched, I laughed. How ridiculous that out of all the issues there are to cover in our nation, let alone our world, that this is what the media chooses to spend their time covering.
We created social media and as a society, it has taken over our lives simply because we let it.
Three simple words: the media lies.
What better platform to allow our president to defend himself than the one form of media we all scroll through multiple times a day?
Trump is a business man. As I myself am a Business major, I understand that marketers run millions of companies Twitter accounts and most politicians probably aren't running their own Twitter. So maybe Trump is attempting to bring back something our avid, constant use of social media has made us void as a society: personal communication. When you tweet Trump, he responds. It's not a marketer dressing up his response so that he can get good publicity.
In a society that lacks communication skills as technology continues to encourage us to stare at a screen, Trump is reaching his market and target audience the only way he knows how, by doing what they're doing.
Twitter is just a politician's modern day billboard.
