Trump. A Shield for Racism?

Recent events in many middle schools show cases of racism with Trump's presidency as a justification.

This isn't an article trashing Trump. This article is addressing the fact that our KIDS are acting out in a racist and crude manner.

Donald Trump recently captured the presidency. Regardless of the fact that I am a democrat and voted for Secretary Clinton, let me say that I am being optimistic and wish President-Elect Trump the best.

Trump's campaign was seen by many as a platform for racism and bigotry. Whether you agree with that or not is up for discussion. Whether or not President Trump will be different than Candidate Trump is to be seen. Recently, I've noticed a few incidents where kids and teens have openly been racist to fellow students and complete strangers and using Trump's name as a justification.

The kids and young adults are acting in a way that the media portrayed Trump for the longest time. Do these kids kids know what they're saying? Have parents taught them to disregard anyone that isn't white? Based on what I've seen, we need to teach our kids respect for all people. I personally am trying to look past much of Trump's campaign where he disrespected people based on their religions, race, disabilities, etc. but these kids who I am about to talk about are, at least in my opinion, showing Trump's campaign was seen as a racist campaign, even by some of his supporters.

Above is a letter to a Georgia high school teacher. Mairah Teli is a Muslim teacher who received this anonymous message in her classroom. It reads:

"Your head scarf isn't allowed anymore. Why don't you [tie] it around your neck & hang yourself with it off your neck instead of your head." - America

What normal human being is taught this is even semi okay? A teacher receiving this, while she is working to teach her student's about her religion along with whatever else she teaches in school.

At Royal Oak Middle School in Michigan, a video has surfaced of students chanting "Build that wall!" Josie Roman, a seventh grader recorded the incident saying tears were running down her face and that her friends that were Mexican-American were running to the bathroom crying. She included that this whole incident was scary and made those targeted very upset.

These racist acts shielded by a Trump presidency is not acceptable. We need to take action against such acts. You want to stop bullying in school? Stop this.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
