President-Elect Donald J. Trump announced at a press conference Tuesday morning in Fayetteville, North Carolina that upon entering the Oval Office, he intended to use his Presidential powers over treaties to repeal the United States' approval of the 1919 Treaty of Versailles.
Since his landslide electoral victory over former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on Nov. 8, many have wondered what President-Elect Trump meant when he said that he would secure better deals for the United States.
"America has been part of some very bad deals, okay?" Trump said at his press conference. "I am astounded at how bad they are. The rest of the world has been ripping us off, believe me. By repealing the Treaty of Versailles, I will start to rebuild the same America that saw endless jobs for everyone and great opportunities for every American."
Critics of Trump are left speechless by the announcement. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-V), who has vowed to work with President-Elect Trump should he choose to take action to fight against climate change, seemed puzzled and confused by the announcement.
"I am lost for words, I really am," Sanders said. "It is clear to be that President-Elect Trump does not understand the first thing about the office which he is about to be the head of. It is now more important than ever that we band together and fight, not just for this, but for all the issues which he threatens to make worse."
President Obama, who had previously agreed to assist the new President-Elect's transition and offer what advice he could on the job, also seemed taken aback by this new development in the Trump Administration's plans.
"I am not entirely sure that Donald exactly understands what the Treaty of Versailles is," Obama said. "I am not sure that he understands the ramifications of what he's saying."
Regardless, President Obama pledges to continue assisting the President-Elect in any way that he can.
"I will definitely advise him against this," Obama said. "I'm not sure that he understands how treaties work, and I'll try my best to explain it to him."
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton did not seem as disturbed or surprised by the news that the President-Elect may be intent on resuming the first World War.
"No, piss off," Clinton said. "I am done with this garbage. You had your chance, you lost it. Let me walk my dogs in peace."
