Donald Trump may be leading the Republican polls right now, but I'm continuously amazed at the horribly inconsiderate and ill-thought-out things that he says. I mean, really. You would think somebody who has been in the public eye as long as he has would learn that sometimes you just need to hold your tongue.
Top times Donald Trump should have just kept his mouth shut:
1. "When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best. They're sending people that have lots of problems, and they're bringing those problems to us. They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people." —Trump's presidential campaign announcement
Okay, I get where he's going with this. He wants fewer illegal immigrants. He's entitled to that opinion, if that's what he thinks. But, really, Trump? Do you really think that insulting the entire Mexican-American population is a good way to win an election? You need people to win. Alienating a huge group of people is not the way to go about that. Plus, that was just plain rude.
2. "I am being proven right about massive vaccinations — the doctors lied. Save our children and their future." — Twitter, 2014
Trump. You're an intelligent man, right? Your success in business shows that you should be. How can you truly believe that vaccinations are bad?? Read: http://www.vaccines.gov/more_info/features/five-im...
http://m.cid.oxfordjournals.org/content/48/4/456.full
(Summary of both: Vaccines are good. Shocking, I know)
3. "NBC News just called it 'The Great Freeze' — coldest weather in years. Is our country still spending money on the GLOBAL WARMING HOAX?" — Twitter, 2014
I have nothing to say here. Refer to #2, but replace "vaccines" with "climate change."
http://m.pnas.org/content/106/6/1704.full
And there are so many more. Both of these topics have so much evidence pointing towards exactly the opposite of what Trump says, and the data supporting him isn't very numerous nor credible. I simply don't understand his views.
4. "If I were running "The View," I'd fire Rosie. I mean, I'd look her right in that fat, ugly face of hers, I'd say, 'Rosie, you're fired.' We're all a little chubby, but Rosie's just worse than most of us." — Entertainment Tonight, 2006
This is crossing the line. It's crossing so many lines! With this statement, Trump is essentially saying that Rosie is nothing more than her looks. He's saying that she doesn't have any personal qualities that would merit her staying on television, because she's fat and that's the most important. He's also saying that overweight people are inherently bad, and shouldn't be allowed on public things like TV. This goes back to #1: does he really think he can afford to alienate so many people like this?
5. "I've said if Ivanka weren’t my daughter, perhaps I'd be dating her." — The View, 2006
This is just gross. I'm disgusted. End of story.
6. "You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes," Trump said during an interview with CNN's Don Lemon on Friday night. "Blood coming out of her wherever."
This quote has already been torn to pieces by the media. Was he talking about her period? Unclear. But did it sound like he was talking about her period? Yes, and that's the important part. He sounded like he was invalidating her anger because she may have been on her period. Essentially, her femaleness made her opinions not matter. Great, Trump, great.
7. "If Hilary Clinton can't satisfy her husband, what makes her think she can satisfy America?" (deleted Twitter post, 2015.) (this was just a retweet, but still)
I really think Trump needs to learn the importance of good PR. Why would he retweet this? Hilary is so much more than her marriage to Bill. Why is her marriage even relevant to her political aspirations? Why would he think that appropriate?
8. "Love him or hate him, Donald Trump is a man who is certain about what he wants and sets out to get it, no holds barred. Women find his power almost as much of a turn-on as his money." (Trump on Trump.) (yes, he said this about himself)
Ah, my favorite quote. Trump just really, really loves himself, and isn't afraid who knows it. Even if we ignore anything else offensive about the statement, it's still a fairly strange thing for him to say about himself, isn't it?
Trump is loud, Trump is uncensored...and Trump is successful, so far. But how long will that success last, if he keeps putting his foot in his mouth? (My hope is not long.)
