On Friday, Donald Trump spoke at a campaign rally in Domondale, Michigan about why every African American should vote for him on November 8, 2016. In my opinion, he did more damage to his campaign than anything.
Less than three months away from Election Day, Donald Trump chooses now to make an attempt at becoming more appealing to black voters. This attempt was an epic fail, even worse than his tweet on Cinco de Mayo stating that he loves the Hispanics despite the fact that Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican holiday.
His aim was basically what many republicans have been saying for years: the democratic party has destroyed African American communities in America.
"To those I say the following: what do you have to lose by trying something new like Trump? What do you have to lose?"
- Donald Trump
What do we black people have to lose by voting for Donald Trump, a narcissistic, racist, misogynist toddler? Everything.
I'm a 19-year-old black girl, technically a woman, in America. I grew up living in a home with four bedrooms and two bathrooms in a nice neighborhood. I went to an amazing pre-school as well as great elementary and middle schools. I graduated with honors from my amazing Alma Mater New Iberia Senior High and I scored a 35 in English on the ACT. I am now in my second year at my state's flagship college, Louisiana State University and I am employed while taking on 15 hours of courses.
I don't quite fit into Donald Trump's category of a black person in America, do I?
According to Donald Trump:
"You're living in poverty. Your schools are no good. Fifty-eight percent of your youth is unemployed."
This is the cringe worthy statement that Donald Trump made throwing all African Americans under only a few categories: poor, dumb, and/or unemployed.
1. 27 percent of the African American population lives in poverty. When you direct a statement like this to an entire race, it becomes problematic because not all black people are poor.
2. The rate of black college graduates has increased by 17.4 percent over 10 years.
3. The unemployment rate for the black youth, ages 16-24, is 18.7 percent. That's less than one third of what Donald Trump claimed.
So Donald, that statement you made about winning over 95% of the black vote in four years? It's never going to happen for two reasons.
Reason 1: We, black people, aren't as uneducated as you think we are.
Reason 2: You won't have the opportunity to get votes from anyone, let alone 95% of black votes, in four years, so enjoy November 8. It'll be the end of your political career before it can even begin.
So, no, Donald Trump, you can't Make The Black Community Great Again because we're already pretty amazing.
After this stunt, it's safe to assume that Trump will not win the black vote this November and he will definitely not win the White House.
