Calling for Compassion from our Presidential Elect

Congratulations on your win, but I just have to get some things off my chest.

So here we are, the day after the Presidential Election. Although you are the Presidential Elect Mr. Trump, you have a lot to realize before you begin your four year term. Respect, empathy and self control are the most important things I wish for you to adopt prior to your inauguration.

In the past, I have not always agreed with a president and his politics, but I always respected them. Being Commander In Chief is no easy job and you will make decisions that not everyone will agree with, but that does not mean your policies and words are allowed to emanate hatred and violence. With great power comes great responsibility Mr. Trump, I hope you are willing to see the ramifications your words and actions will have on our country.

We, the people, are diverse, impassioned and honestly scared. Scared of your views on immigrants, people of color, disabled, women, and even our veterans who bravely fought for our freedom and yours. No one is perfect, but your repeated harassment and degrading comments are not acceptable. The President of the United States should be his people's biggest fan and protector. All peoples in this great nation should be able to rest easy at night without fear of violence being taken against them due to their sexuality, race or gender, but sadly you political campaign has created an emotionally charged atmosphere in which hate, racism, bigotry and misogyny have been fostered and acted upon. This is unacceptable, I hope in the upcoming months you take proactive steps to correct these atrocities.

As democrats or republicans who chose not to support you, we are no longer the people you have to argue against, but the people you must argue for. You will be the one negotiating with foreign diplomats and overseeing legislation that will impact the livelihood of all Americans; I hope you will take this responsibility seriously and not use your power as a platform to put down others.

You can go ahead and call me a nasty woman or a sore loser, but I hope you understand that I am saying all these things out of love for my country not for any distain I may feel for you, Mr. Trump.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
