"I did try and fuck her... she was married"

“Just kiss. I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything.”

“Grab them by the pussy. You can do anything.”

These are some of the words the Republican Presidential nominee said about his pursuit of women on the set of “Days of Our lives” back in 2005. The full video is in the link provided.

Though the audio is disgusting, lewd, and promoting sexual assault, I am not surprised. The way the GOP nominee has acted his entire public life, way before he pursued a political career, it has been clear as day how he sees women. As objects. He has called them “fat pigs,” “slobs,” “dirty animals,” and the list goes on. GOP leaders had already stooped to new lows after overlooking their nominee’s previous behaviors. However, it seems they may have reached the floor of their tolerance with none being able to defend their candidate’s remarks in the video released by the Washington Post.

The remarks may have been said in private yet that does not make them acceptable. What someone says in private tends to be what they truly believe and what the GOP’s nominee described was sexual assault. To simply “just start kissing” a woman, or far less “grab her pussy,” without her consent is sexual assault. He continues to describe rape by bragging about how his celebrity presence gives him the power to “do anything. Whatever the purpose of this bragging he seems to think this sort of behavior is acceptable and will garner him support from his friends.

This sort arrogant treatment of sexual assault is the definition of rape culture. When it is presented as sort of a punch line men will see it as less serious. The worse part is though this individual may not just be theoretically bragging about this but has been accused of sexual assault many times. Numerous former employees, a Miss USA contestant, and even his ex wife Ivana have accused him of unpardonable sexual behavior. His ex wife Ivana, in a sworn statement in 1989 during her divorce, had said she was brutally raped by her husband.

This is an individual who is running for the highest form of public office in the country. It is an office where you are held to the highest ethical and moral standard. The fact that the Republican nominee has been accused by many women of sexually assaulting or raping them does not shock me. However, what does is how far he has come in this election. The word to describe how I felt after listening to this latest audio is not upset, but livid. This disgusting excuse for a human being does not deserve the vote of a single woman. The man said he would date his own daughter if he could. In a Howard Stern interview said it’s alright to call his daughter Ivanka “a piece of ass.” No sir, it is not alright. Many people have fought bravely in the last decade and so to change the rape culture present in America. Tried to end the objectification of women and teach our youth what consent is. Still, how can we tell our children it’s not okay to simply grab people by their genitals when a man so close to the presidency is bragging about it? The election is a month away. If you’re still voting for this man I ask you to play the above video to your mother, daughter, wife, or girlfriend, look them in the eye and tell them this is the man you want to be your president. This is an individual who does not want to Make America Great Again. He wants to Make America Rape Again.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
