Trump announced that as of July 15th, 2020 all hospitals would no longer report their data to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and instead to the White House. This new policy leaves us baffled and terrified for what is to come.
The Trump administration has already lost our trust, and now we must rely on them even more?
We are given no choice but to "trust" data coming from an administration which has barely escaped investigations regarding rigged elections, an impeached president, and negotiating illegal deals with world leaders. In light of recent events in Portland and the use of federal agents in detaining protesters, it paints a clear picture of an undemocratic country.
The move to report data to the White House was claimed by the administration to aid reopening, but it jeopardizes the safety of our people. When people no longer have confidence in their government, and no longer have access to unbiased information, they are blind. We are now battling coronavirus nearly blind when assessing the nation.
This move also coincides with the skyrocketing of cases in the southern parts of the country as states reopen and masks are not enforced. By removing access to proper data, us citizens are unaware of the real damage happening around the country, and will not even be able to get an accurate idea in the future -- since we cannot revisit truthful data. He has even prohibited the presence of health experts at his COVID briefings. This allows Trump to do some damage control on the image of his presidency as the 2020 election approaches. Shuffling mistakes under the rug is not new when it comes to him, but this risks the well-being of our democracy.
Before his presidency turns more and more into a regime, we must vote him out of office. The lives of our loved ones depend on it.
