Dogs. A human's best friend. My best friend. My dog is everything to me and more. Why? Because she's literally the best! She is someone I can always go to, who won't turn away from me, and who will always be willing to snuggle. Who cares if it's a dog? Dogs are the most loyal pets you'll ever have and that's a fact.
Dogs never judge.
My dog doesn't judge me. Even at the worst of times, my dog will obediently sit there and listen to me. I can rant, I can yell, I can scream, I can cry, I can jump for joy. No matter what the emotion or the situation is, my dog will be there to listen to the whole thing. She senses my emotions and knows exactly how to change her effect so that it almost seems like she understands.
Dogs are loyal.
Your dog is your dog. If ever given the ultimatum to choose between two people, your dog will always choose you. Dogs will be there through thick and thin, because that's what they feel is most right. And it is. It is an amazing feeling knowing that you always have someone on your side, whether or not you are right or wrong. Your dog will never be one to run the other way, because your dog will be proud to be standing by your side, regardless of the outcome.
Dogs are happy.
No matter what, my dog is always wagging her tail. There is not a day that goes by that my dog doesn't wag her tail, at least once. Whether that be from her own emotions or for trying to cheer me up, she is happy. Her happiness is evident in her wagging tail, but also in her little face, that almost looks like she is smiling. With her tongue hanging and her tail wagging and her little paws pressing onto my legs, I can't help but be happy too.
Dogs are funny.
My dog does TONS of silly little tricks that both impress me and make me laugh. She can shake hands (or paws, in her case), she can sit, lay down, roll over, and even fetch. A special trick that my dog does that is DANCE! If given the incentive of any sort of food (of course), she will get up on her hind legs and jump/hop, following the food all the way across the room. It's also pretty funny when my dog gets really excited and runs all over the place, slipping on my wood floors.
Dogs are intelligent.
There are so many dogs that are more than just pets. Though being a pet is a great thing, there are dogs that have been trained to have real occupations in our society. There are dogs for people with physical disabilities, dogs for people with mental disabilities, and more. There are dogs that work for the police department, using their abilities to assist humans in achieving tasks that we cannot. Dogs are such an asset to our society and to our lives, that no one would be the same without them.
Dogs will always find their way home.
No matter what happens, dogs always find their way back home. Dogs have a feeling and a need to be back with their families. If they get out, escape, or accidentally run away, they will always make their way back because they know that is where they belong. They belong with their families, in a big, beautiful, comfy home. They don't belong on the streets, they belong with their families. So, no matter the situation, your dog will be as desperate to come home as you will to have him or her home.
Dogs are amazing animals and even more amazing pets. They do great things for our society and for our personal lives. This list is short, but it covers a lot. I could have an exhaustive list of reasons why dogs are the greatest pets to have and arguably, the greatest animals around. However, the purpose of this is to remind all of your to love your dog a little more.
Appreciate your pets as if they are family, because that's what they are. A pet is just like a sister or brother or parent, a part of a family. Would your family be the same without your dog? I know mine wouldn't. She gets her own stocking on the banister at Christmas, her own basket for Easter, her own gifts for her birthday, and more. So, pet your dog a little longer today. Give her another treat. Take her for a nice, long walk. She deserves it.
