I have always loved music. When I was little, I would walk around singing and would enjoy hearing music performed live. So it was no surprise to anybody that I wanted to play an instrument and be in band. My journey in band has brought me from 5th grade all the way to college, and I still love it as much as I did then. I never wanted to major in music or do music for a living, but it has definitely been my life anyway. I have also come to find out that being in band gives you experiences, lessons, and friendships that are beyond compare.
Through band, I have learned several life lessons. I have learned the value of being punctual, what it means to truly work hard (and how it feels to be rewarded for your work), and how to work with and love people from all walks of life.
I think when it comes down to it, while you get to make good music and travel to some cool places while you’re in band, the true value lies with the intelligent, dedicated, talented, unique individuals you meet. There is no other activity you can join that allows people of all different backgrounds, physical and mental abilities, interests, and strengths to come together and form a cohesive family. Your band family will cheer you on, lift you up, and give you memories that you will never forget. These people will also become lifelong friends that will stick with you for the rest of your life and make the journey all worthwhile.
