In this generation, we have all defined love by what we see physically within each other. We define love based on the celebrity couples that grace our social media and internet screens. We have lost the essence and impeccable value that exists within the "old fashioned" way of true love. As a technology based generation, people only communicate through text and direct messages, no longer face-to-face contact especially for long distance relationships and courtships. The long distance relationships are very difficult to sustain without technology whenever the couple is far apart from one another. I believe that this generation needs to get back to the old type of love which included loyalty, trust, faithfulness and peace. The famous films normally portray a "picture perfect" type of love that goes through challenges and ends up with the "happily ever after" future. However love is not always "picture perfect," love is like a diamond that is uprooted from the soil in the beginning stage, then processed to work through the obstacles to form the finished product -- "the diamond."
It is never easy to stay committed in love, but before you enter into that commitment, you must work diligently on yourself, primarily before you love someone else, because you could be entering with broken pieces. As a person who grew up with many insecurities regarding my physical being, I needed to change the perspective that I held for myself. I started to realize how unhealthy it was to think about myself negatively and the effects that I had developed. I wanted to change not only for myself but for my family, my future husband and children. I needed to focus on how my negativity would affect my future, not only myself, and that was a complete eye opener or "deja vu" moment.
Finally, my faith also played a tremendous role in how I knew the true meaning of love and not the fantasized type of love that films portray, nor the text messages with emojis type of love. As I came to terms with my own issues, I started to find out the true definition of love, so that not only my future shines but everyone around me feels it too. I went to the Word of God, the Bible, for my instructions to living my life for answers to find out. It states in 1 Corinthians 13:4 that "love is patient, love is kind, it does not envy, it does not boast" which makes love defined as a good thing to have. As the bible verse continues to the eighth verse, it simply recognizes that love is about caring for others and holds no blemishes of the past. It simply involves protection, trust, honesty, hope and always perseveres through thick and thin. Think about what true love means, if it is similar to the bible verse... then you know the true definition of love.
