"We’re soaring, flying, there’s not a star in heaven we can't reach."
"High School Musical," which is a modernized version of Romeo and Juliet minus the death (sorry for the spoilers) involving the star basketball player meeting the shy genius and hitting it off with music. A great plot right?
What makes things better is that the two of them had never had singing roles before and this was a forbidden thing to the both of them. It ends with the two putting their lives aside to audition for a show and getting the part. It also starred a young Zac Efron and who doesn’t want to see that? Since that introduction two sequels followed, Zac Efron became a household name and, of course, Disney thrived off of the success. For those who don’t know me well "High School Musical" is one of my favorite movies. I know all the songs to the point where if my friends hand the aux cord some song will be played and I will scream it at the top of my lungs. However, I wasn’t always this way.
Growing up I wasn’t the person who would reveal the things he liked which were deemed uncool. I struggled with making friends and when I did make friends I always wanted to make it seem like I was cool just like them. So some people knew I loved this movie but it wasn’t something I opened with. However, when I went to college I realized that I could be the person I wanted to be and if someone didn’t like it they would just have to deal. I know some people might say, “most guys don’t have this as a favorite movie.” I can reiterate that I am not like most guys. I used to be concerned that I wouldn’t be liked by everyone but that changed when I realized I only need that close group of friends who care about me instead of those thousands of followers on social media who don’t know me as well.
"High School Musical"? Well, Troy Bolton went through the exact same thing. He was always the star basketball player and everyone thought they had Troy figured out but the one person who didn’t have Troy figured out was Troy himself. When we find something we are good at we usually stick with it and for Troy that was basketball but he also found something he could be someone else besides just a regular athlete. Troy was afraid to tell everyone about this experience not knowing how they would feel. We get so caught up in how other people will think of us when we need to think about what makes us happy.
"High School Musical" is a great movie but I think I really understand the movie now instead of how I did when I was 12. It shouldn’t matter how some people view us because we don’t need everyone to like us except for the most important people in our lives. These are the ones who will always be there for you no matter the situation. In the end of the movie Troy’s friends support his decision to sing and we learn what true friendship is.
