With Christmas right around the corner, Christmas music is being played everywhere. People are getting into the Christmas spirit by playing their favorite holiday classics. We all have our favored songs. Each year when we hear them, they bring back memories and nostalgia from past Christmases. Here's a list of some of the best Christmas jingles and the memories and thoughts that come along with them.

All I Want For Christmas You

It’s that time of the year again….to practice nailing that famous “YOUUUU” Mariah Carey bellows out at the end of the song. Or it means it’s time to get down on the dance floor to this 90s pop hit.

I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Clause

Christmas is a time where everyone is supposed to come together and be merry as a family. Why do you want your Mom cheating on your Dad with Santa?! And Santa’s not being so holly and jolly canoolding with your Mom. On top of that, you can’t ruin a child’s Christmas spirit by telling them Santa Clause in this song is technically your dad. Personally, there are too many confusing components.

Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree

A Christmas classic. Hearing this song gives us flashbacks to past Christmases. Sitting around the table on Christmas Eve and passing around delicious dishes. Then, all gathering around the tree to open gifts, only to discover your brother gave you a Victoria Secret gift card. Interesting.

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Every lyric is so accurate. This song perfectly depicts how one feels during the Christmas season. But there is one problem. Until it says “it’s the happ happiest season of all.” Yes, very true, but when you procrastinate, don’t do your Christmas shopping until December 24th and this song is constantly being played at the mall, you aren’t feeling the “happ happiest.” More like the “I’m stress stressed to the max."

Baby It’s Cold Outside

You aspire to find a man that’ll copy the scene from Elf, where Buddy mindlessly harmonizes with Jovie to this song. He’s out there ladies. Somewhere. And men trying to find a woman who sings as beautifully as Zooey Deschanel does in the shower? Good luck. That’s pretty impossible to replicate.

Feliz Navidad

Such a simple, yet catchy tune. Repeating Merry Christmas throughout a 3-minute song could bother some, but not with this song. No one has ever complained about the crazy amounts of Merry Christmases said throughout the song, so just carry on singing “from the bottom of my heart.”

Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)

You’re flying down the highway and snow is falling hard against your windshield. You took your last final exam and now you’re home free. Here comes a month full of good food and relaxation. Now, turn up the volume and sing your heart out because baby you're going home for Christmas!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
