The True Meaning Of Christmas

Christmas is so much more than the superficial.

What is the true meaning of Christmas?

"Have a holly jolly Christmas; It's the best time of the year!"

As the seasons change from fall to winter, the weather turns icy. Darkness comes sooner, but the frosty nights are lit by glowing Christmas trees in every window. Stores are full of shoppers buying gifts for their families. Semesters come to a close, and everyone is ready for a break. Many try hard to show off their Christmas spirit, but few people know what it truly means.

Here are a few examples of what Christmas means to me. I hope they ring true for you, too.

1. Christmas means...

Decorating my white cane with battery-operated Christmas lights, because hey, the cane has spirit too.

2. Christmas means...

Going to CVS with my roommates and chipping in to buy decorations for our dorm room, because we're shamelessly festive and everyone should know it!

3. Christmas means...

Giving all of the change in my wallet to a guy in need, because I wouldn't have used it anyway, and not enough people are willing to be the light in the dark anymore.

4. Christmas means...

Going to Target and picking out thoughtful gifts for all of 40 people on my list and cringing at the receipt but only for a second, because I knew that all of the smiles will be worth every dollar.

5. Christmas means...

Being motivated to do my work, because I know I'll get to wrap the insane amount of presents piled under my bunk and blare Christmas music when I'm done.

6. Christmas means...

Uploading requested holiday covers to YouTube, because friends and family want to feel my spirit through the music.

7. Christmas means...

Being kind wherever I go to whomever I meet.

8. Christmas means...

Fluffy socks, hot chocolate, and good company.

9. Christmas means...

Appreciating everything I have, because it's all I need, and I know I am blessed.

10. Christmas means...

Love, laughter, family, friends, and God.

Christmas is so much more than the superficial. This Holiday season, take a moment to look up, look around, and open your heart. The world would be a better place if we all treated every day like Christmas Day!

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!

Dear High School Friend Group,

My sweet angels, where would I be without you guys. We all grew up together because we either met in middle school or high school and watched each other grow up and get "old." We got to go to prom together and then graduate together. Then watched each other as we continued our lives in college, joining sororities and meeting people who will impact our lives forever. It all has happened so fast.
