Going to school in Arizona is all fun and games until you get to the end of September and realize that Fall isn't happening, it's just not. You'll see all your friends who go to colleges around the country trading in sandals for boots and shorts for leggings, but not you, you chose to go to school in a desert. While they are playing in falling leaves, you're still swimming in the pool and sweating your you know what off at football games. September 23rd may have come and passed, but the Arizona sun does not care that Fall has begun. Arizona wants to be different, Arizona is not going to listen to society and turn seasons, Arizona does not care that everywhere else is cooling down. So, Arizona decides to be an individual and what happens to its inhabitants? We melt, we suffer, and we wish for Fall.
On occasion, you'll see a girl walking down Apache or Lemon in her leggings and boots in mid September. This girl is completely out of her mind. She is craving Fall (or maybe even Winter) and she knows that Fall is not happening yet, but she does not care what you or I think. She is probably dying of heat exhaustion and sweating in her boots, but she walks with pride in her Lulus and Steve Maddens. She is drinking a Pumpkin Spice Latte (the hot kind) and she struts through campus like the seasons have changed (literally). I cannot be this girl, scratch that, I refuse to be this girl because I'm not prepared to die/have the entire ASU population look at me funny. But you go girl, you pretend it's Fall, it will be here soon (kinda).
At this point, we get excited for 91-degree weather, because to us Arizonians, anything is better than 115. That is just sad. Personally, being from California, this is still too hot. The stores are selling Fall clothes, but do they not realize the temperature is still in the 100s? Who is able to wear sweaters in this weather? Even when the weather does change for the cooler Fall clothing can be a mistake. It could be okay when you leave, but by the time you arrive to class or get to work you'll probably be dying. The Arizona sun is hot and it does not go away just because Fall is here.
Now, don't get me wrong, I love my school, but come on Fall could you just make an appearance already? I'm ready for hot drinks at Starbucks, boots, leggings, spirit jerseys, and even scarves. Heck, I could even go for some pumpkin pie and the whole Thanksgiving feast. I think I'm getting ahead of myself, but really could you just send us some cool air and crisp leaves? It would be much appreciated.
I don't think that a simple season is too much to ask for. I know come the end of October/early November I will rejoice with my warm Pumpkin Spice Latte in hand, for finally Fall will be upon us. Better late than never, am I right?
