Being a college student can be stressful, especially as school work begins to pick up, when you realize how many commitments you have and when you feel like the library is your second home. Although it may seem like your workload is never ending, and as a result, it is taking over your whole life, there are effective ways to deal with stress.

1. Make a “To-Do List”

This seems like the most obvious solution to managing stress, but not as many people do it as you would think. Staying organized and knowing how to prioritize work and other commitments will decrease stress. Whether you have a long-term assignment that you need to get started on or reading to get done before an exam, there is nothing more relieving than checking something off of your to-do list.

2. Join a Study Group

Studying for an exam or working on a difficult assignment alone can be absolutely torturous. Find people in your classes who will keep you motivated and form a study group. Discussion based study sessions are often a lot more effective than continuously reading over the same study guide, especially when you are already burnt out.

3. Exercise

Taking a break from a draining assignment to hit the gym, go for a run or take an exercise class are all great ways to help relieve stress. Exercising will give you the opportunity to get your mind off of school work and reenergize. As a result, when you come back to your work you will be a lot more productive.

4. Watch Your Favorite TV Show or Movie

On a long and stressful day, there is nothing better than taking a study break to watch an episode of your favorite TV show or a great movie. Although it is very easy to lose track of time while watching TV, it is important to stay disciplined and get back to your school work.

5. Take a Break to Eat

Everyone gets caught up with school work and other commitments, but it is important to make sure not to forget to eat. Whether it is meal time or you are just hungry for a snack, take a break from your work and grab something healthy to eat. Food gives you the energy and brain power you need to focus on your work and be most efficient with your time.

6. Get a Good Night Sleep

Getting a good night of sleep is so important because it is impossible to completely catch up on missed sleep. Set a limit for yourself as to when you need to be finished with your work for the night and actually stick with it.

Following these pointers will help to minimize stress and increase productivity, which is exactly what every college student needs.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
