Troy Seriously Needs To Provide More Affordable Apartments For College Students

I mean, haven't you ever heard the stereotype "broke college student?"

Recently, I started looking at apartments in Troy, and it has been a very stressful experience. I always assumed that apartments were for people who didn't want roommates, but, wow, was I wrong. Every apartment near campus seems to be a two bedroom or four bedroom. I get that people might enjoy having a roommate, but not everyone wants to live with other people.

I just believe Troy should have more decent looking one-bedroom apartments for an affordable price. I have visited some really beautiful apartments, and the apartments resemble little homes on the inside, but when I find out they are two bedrooms it kills my excitement to even be there.

I feel like Troy doesn't prioritize one bedroom apartments, and you can definitely tell if you did the research.

There seem to be no furnished one bedroom apartments, and that is just another inconvenience because there are TONS of 2, 3, and 4 bedroom apartments that come furnished.

Every one bedroom apartment I have seen has been unfurnished and not really as close to campus as you'd hope. I have no problem with two bedroom apartments, but I feel like every apartment complex should have single rooms, double rooms, and triple rooms in the same vicinity, especially since the one bedroom apartments are not kept up as well as the double bedroom apartments.

It's just that not all college students want roommates.

The price for a one bedroom can go anywhere from $400-$1000. The ones I have viewed have been in the $600 price range, and that still is very pricey considering it comes unfurnished, it's a relatively small one bedroom, and utilities haven't been included yet. Of course, they do offer one bedrooms for around $400, which isn't bad, but they're usually far away from campus and not in a great location.

I shouldn't have to live in an unsafe location in order to be able to afford an apartment.

One apartment complex with an exceptionally cheap price had police caution tape outside near the playground where kids could play. I don't know what happened there, but of course, that immediately turned me away from even wanting to continue touring the place.

I just think Troy should consider one bedroom apartments because not everyone wants a roommate. Also, considering it's a college town, more realtor offices should want to offer more one bedrooms that are closer to campus. Housing close to campus really helps college students when choosing where to live.

We already pay so much for tuition and I don't think that we should be paying just as much in rent each year.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
