One of my favorite things about living in South Carolina, specifically Greenville, is the access we have to fresh and locally grown foods. Whether you are just shopping at Whole Foods or having dinner at a restaurant or even venturing out to the farmers market, locally grown foods are everywhere.
This past Thursday night my friend and I decided to take a little trip to the local Travelers Rest Farmers Market. This farmers market typically takes place every weekend, all summer long. But for the month of October, they have a Thursday night event, full of food trucks, live music, and local vendors.
From the moment we arrived, there was a sense of energy in the air. The setting was alive with a sense of community and all around good vibe. We walked around visiting the local booths, sampling everything from honey to homemade bread, mozzarella to pulled pork. It was great to get to try all the fantastic food and products that are offered around our area.
I also loved being able to ask questions about how certain items were grown or made. What steps did they take to create their product? Is it organic? It was so interesting just getting to know the vendors and/or farmers! It was just one more thing that made it feel more like a community.
One of my all time favorite things was the food trucks that were there! I mean shopping at a farmers market can be exhausting so why not fuel up with some yummy food! The line for one of the trucks was long, so we decided to have dessert before dinner! We stumbled upon this adorable little old fashion ice cream truck- The Chillwagon. Oh my goodness, this was absolutely amazing. I topped my homemade chocolate ice cream off with fresh strawberries and graham crackers! It was so good I could have gone back for seconds and skipped dinner altogether, but my friend convinced me to go for the taco truck instead.
So we hoped in the long line for Automatic Taco! While waiting, we debated and argued over which ones we were going to try. They all sound way too good. But by then end of it I am happy with our decision (we got all four)! This little stop was the cherry on top to the evening. We then finished our night by eating our tacos sitting on hay barrels and listening to the live music. It is nights like these that I am incredibly grateful for the school I go to!
