This weekend, my best friend and I finally got to go to the Ice Castes in Lincoln, NH. We've been planning to go the past two years but, well, we just haven't been able to make time for it. We were so excited to finally get to take the time to go on our adventure! We were even more excited that we went on a day where is was about 50 degrees. Some of the pictures I got there were so cool I wanted to share them in case people wanted to know how the experience really is.
After our 2 1/2 hour car ride to get there, we were pretty hungry. We stopped at a cute breakfast place but the wait was too long for us, so we went to a pizza place instead. I'm glad it was. The view from the pizza place didn't disappoint. It was amazing to look out the window and see mountains. You don't see this too much in MA!
Next, we were finally heading to the Ice Castles. We were only a few minutes down the road so we didn't have too far to go. When we finally pulled in, we were even more excited. We didn't have to wait in line for too long, and finally we were in! These are pictures of the first part of the castles you see before going into it.
Once we got in, we went right into a couple connecting "tunnels" that took us to the main part of the castles. What do you do when you get into a castle made of ice? Take selfies of course.
After exploring all the little areas, we got to the main part of the castles. The wide open space surprised me, I thought a lot of it was going to be similar to the tunnels. There were a couple connecting arches to another big part of the castles. Benches were plotted around the space as well, and people were scattered around the whole area.
Throughout the castles, they had a few seats carved into the walls and carved photo-op spaces. There was even a mini slide for little kids and a good-size slide which you slide down about as fast as a waterslide. (I didn't get any pictures while on the slide, but the second photo is the end of it.)
After we did the slides, we went and got some hot chocolate and cookies from the little shack in the castles. It was yummy and was the perfect treat, even if it was really nice outside!
We were in the castles for a total of about an hour and a half. We went to leave, and the mountain view from the parking lot was so cool, I had to snap a picture before we left!
Overall, it was such a fun day for us! We didn't know what to expect after hearing mixed reviews but we honestly had a great time. At some points during the day, we were both saying how amazing it was that it was all made from ice. It was intriguing to read about the story of the Ice Castles as well. Since we were there when it was 50 degrees, it was melting just a bit, but it still looked unreal. The only thing that could make it better was if we could've seen it light up at night!
Here are some of my other random favorite pictures from the castles to show how it looks from different perspectives.
