On Sunday, October 23, 2016, I and a few other Holy Family students went on a trip to Bear Mountain located in New York. It was a chilly but beautiful day, which was perfect for a hiking adventure. When I initially heard about this trip through a friend, I had no idea what this trip was all about. She told me that we will be going to New York to climb a specific mountain. I decided "Why not? It will be a fun and new experience for me." So I went along in this trip, and I have learned a great deal about this epic journey. This hiking involved hours of walking and climbing steps made up of stones. It truly was a difficult one as me and my friend soon felt the heaviness on our legs. I thought that we would never make it to the top because of countless steps we had to go climb. However, something inside my heart told me to push myself just a little bit and bam! I was motivated to push myself until I got to the top of the mountain. In this long journey, my friend and I finally reached the top and we felt like we accomplished a difficult goal.
At the end of this trip, I discovered how valuable this adventure was. Not only did it involve meeting new people and connecting with them, it also involved getting a closer relationship to God, which was the main point of this trip in the first place. This hiking was meant to broaden our horizons as well as our faith. The power of being able to push myself by only a small amount made me realize that no matter what, God is there to help us by shining light upon us, making sure we are out of the darkness.
I learned so many things while being on this trip and I was really able to feel a sense of someone who is always there to help you through your downs and pick you up to push you into the right direction. Initially, I saw this trip simply as an adventure of hiking up to the mountain to just get to the top and enjoy the view of nature. But I realized this trip was more than just that; it truly was an adventure to broaden one's scopes and views of the deeper meaning of life.
