We all know ghost hunts, we've seen them on TV. We can't tell if they're faking it or if we just don't want to believe. Or maybe we're just watching it to see how many times one of the camera men can scream. A deciding factor in our belief scale is when the crew picks up an EVP, or Electromagnetic Voice Phenomenon, and yes, I am that person that knows what that is. It all depends on whether or not we believe that we can hear a voice through the static or if it just sounds like someone dropped their entire silverware drawer into the garbage disposal. I, on the other hand, got to experience the fantastic feeling of someone speaking into my ear when I was the only one in the room. My story begins at the Ohio State Reformatory.
A couple months back I took a trip to Mansfield, Ohio, where I traveled through the once abandoned prison, now a museum. It is here where I started to question the paranormal. Now, if you don't know much about the prison itself, I'll give you a little insight to how many people it held: 154,000 inmates were held in the prison throughout its 94 years of running — some of whom never made it out. Just outside the tall stone prison walls are 215 graves, where inmates who lost their life from fights, disease, suicide, or simply time now lie.
As I roamed the halls, snapping photos and taking in the wonderful scent of peeling lead-based paint, I came across the hospital ward. Creepy, I know. Walking up to the window on the far back wall, I peered over the ledge. From this window, you can see the currently working prison. This is where I hosted my lovely visitor. Seconds after I looked out the window, someone — and by someone I don't really know what I mean because I was the only one in the room — decided to relay a message to me. Whispering into my ear I hear the comforting words "Still here..." It is then that I involuntarily became the karate kid, defending myself from, well, the air. I turned around to find no one in my wake. I figured it was about time I took some pictures and got the heck out of there. Below are some of the photos I took. Check these out for yourselves and decide whether you are the believer, or the silverware in the garbage disposal.
