I had the amazing experience of going to New York city over fall break and all I can say is that I LOVED it! Every second of it and I cannot wait to got back. I fell in love with the city and Broadway stole my heart. I am seriously already planning my trip back and I can not wait to be back in the city. I know it's where I need to be for a little longer than a weekend.
Some people hate the fact that it's so busy, I find an odd calm in the chaos. With all the people running around and rushing it really gives you time to sit back and really think, which sounds odd. I felt a sense of peace because no one knew me there and I didn't know them, and being somewhat antisocial, this made me feel amazing. I knew that if I didn't want to see them again I didn't have to. Also, it was quiet, I know people think it's so loud there, but it wasn't a kill your ears, have to yell loud. And that may have just been because I'm already partially deaf from band, but I didn't find it to be that bad.
One thing I was really shocked on was the giant lack of things to do after midnight. I was always told that the NYC was the city that never sleeps, but after 12, it's pretty shut down. Almost all of times square was closed, and so was china town. I don't know if that was because it was a week night, or if that's just how it is at night there and everyone was just romanticizing all the lights. But all I can say is, that city definately sleeps.
We did everything while we were there. We got lost on the subway, I got hit on by some random African security guard, crossed two things off my bucket list, and even played a really intense game of truth or dare on the way home. We saw times square in the lights, we saw an amazing show on Broadway, ate sketchy Chinese food from china town, stayed out and got McDonald's at 2 a.m., and got really good, really expensive cheese cake. We marched in the Columbus Day Parade (which was recorded if you want to check it out), and played at the statue of liberty, we went to the 9/11 museum, we literally did everything. But I have to say that the most important thing that we did was make amazing memories and strengthen friendships that will always be there. I got close to people I never saw myself getting close to, but here we are, closer than ever. And trust me, I wouldn't change any part of my trip at all, and I will be writing more about my two most favorite parts of the trip, so make sure you keep an eye out on my page for those. But New York City is gorgeous and I can not wait til I can go back and explore even more of such a vibrant and amazing city.
