I have always been a fan of the Kardashians and if you really know me you will know that Kourtney Kardashian is my absolute role model. She is one of the coolest people and I can always count on her to stalk when I am bored. Kim Kardashian on the other hand isn’t one of my favorites.
Less than two weeks ago after watching one of last episodes of “Keeping up with the Kardashians,” Kim Kardashian decided to share the conversation Kanye West had with Taylor Swift about the lines in one of his new songs, “Famous.” Apparently, in Kanye West’s song, he writes about how him and Taylor Swift will still have sex and that he made her famous after he interrupted her speech at the 2009 MTV VMA awards. And because we all know how wonderful and magical Beyoncé is, some (meaning Kanye) felt like she deserved it way more.
Recently on Twitter, there has been a lot of controversy over the whole situation. Kim Kardashian posted on her Snapchat parts of a video where Taylor Swift is thanking Kanye for letting her know what is going to be in the song. Because of this, many people have been calling Taylor Swift a liar, a snake, and it became a total "he said, she said" situation. Taylor of course felt like this video recording was illegal and that there were parts of the song that Kanye never asked for her permission to say. Many fans were on Kim Kardashian’s side because it was about time people saw the ‘not so perfect’ side of Taylor Swift—which she seems to hide wonderfully. Other fans were of course on Taylor’s side, and some people, like Chloe G. Mortez (who became a huge threat to the Kardashian family), weren’t on a side.
Chloe G. Mortez decided to go on Twitter to tell the world—mostly celebrities—to stop the silly drama and start focusing on the more important things going on in the world. Just a little less than two weeks before Kim Kardashian decided to leak this video on her Snapchat, Alton Sterling and Philando Castile were shot to death by police in Baton Rouge and Minnesota. And around the same time, 3 police officers were shot dead in Baton Rouge as well.
Even though I am a little Kardashian obsessed, I honestly think this whole situation was ridiculous and unnecessary. Right now, there are so many more important things going on in our world and instead of these famous people using their voices for change, they use it against other people. People are outraged when they see that the whole Kardashian family can post a simple BLM photo, with no words or anything added to that, yet they are constantly bumping and rapping to rap music in their million dollar cars and dating black men. The fact that it was so easy for the Internet to go crazy over the video that Kim Kardashian leaked just shows how powerful of a person she can be. And for that, I think it is definitely a problem when more people are talking about the Taylor Swift vs. Kim Kardashian feud rather than the two black men that were shot to death by police officers two weeks ago.
Celebrities, TV stars, movie stars, comedians, whatever they may be have no idea how strong their voice is and how much of a difference they can make. Luckily, this isn’t a world filled with Kim Kardashians, because otherwise we would be using our brains and power for things far less important. We have some really great and intelligent celebrities of all different races to help use their voice to stand for justice, hope, and togetherness, but at the same time we need all celebrities to be more active in this movement.
