I am completely and utterly in love with all things make-up. I will spend hours and hours looking through the make-up isles at any store I go. A trip to Sephora is my very own mini-vacation. I have absolutely no shame spending $100 easy on make-up products alone. There may or may not be an addiction on the rise.
I'm all about trying new things. New options, new eye shadow palettes, new lip colors, and shades of eyeliner. I consider myself pretty handy when it comes to painting my face. I like to think I do it very well, and I know what I like, and how to dress up my everyday look. Besides all that, there is one piece of my make-up puzzle that is still a mystery since as of late, and it quite honestly terrifies me. Yes, I'm talking about the contour palette.
You think I'm behind the trend. Not necessarily, since I go for a more bronzed look in summer with lighter accents, and in the winter I'm too pale for a full face of glowing product. This is different. I bought myself a contour kit to try my hand at a "night-out" look, hoping to dress up my "simple girl" look. I know contouring is old news, but I've heard more and more lately that women are opting out of the contoured look. They believe it makes them look "plastic", and that they simply don't have the motivation to spend that much time on their morning routine. I figured, "Someone needs to test this out". So here are my thoughts after trying my hand at contouring:
I did not feel like Kim K.
Honestly though, I thought that the instant the contour palette hit my face, I would feel like a Kardashian. Doesn't happen, and that's honestly the most depressing part.
You look dirty.
I'm naturally the palest person anyone has ever seen. With that being said, to add any color, I use a light bronzer or blush. With this contour kit, I looked like I had thick spots of foundation, and it didn't blend well with my complexion. Maybe I need a lighter shade?
Highlighter is magical.
I loved highlighting more than contouring. I used the highlighter under my eyes, my chin, and my nose. My natural facial accents were really poppin' then.
It's way harder than it looks.
After I finally opened it, it took a while to decide how to go about it. Foundation, contour, blush? Contour, foundation, powder? It's way more overwhelming than YouTube tutorials make it out to seem.
It takes 5ever.
It's not something you can do in five minutes. Plan at least 10-15 minutes if not more for the perfect face of product.
I felt like Jenna Marbles and the 100 layers of make-up.
My face feels thicker and heavier than normal. I can definitely feel that I'm wearing a full face of foundation rather than just whats necessary. I can't tell if it's a bad thing or not. Does this feeling mean I'm doing it right?
Honestly, the contour palette was initially a bit of a let down. I'm sure with more practice I'll fall in love with it, and I'll have Kardashian cheek bones in no time.
