A Tribute to 'Reign'

Just like Mary Queen of Scots' rule, the show is ending far too soon.

Everyone has their favorite few television shows or series that absolutely love. It's the kind of TV show that you instantly get addicted to, and the next thing you know, you simply can't stop watching it and you're 20 episodes in. For us, these shows are a little escape from the real world. We become fully engrossed in the plot and often times very emotionally invested. We envision ourselves living in that world and what it would be like if our favorite characters were actually real. For me, my all-time favorite series is Reign.

Many of you have probably never heard of this show, but I think it is very popular in its own right. This past week, it was announced that the show will not be renewed after its fourth and final season. Like all other TV series, each one must come to an end at some point. But it is still always sad to hear whenever your favorite show decides its time for the finale. So here are some of the many things that I enjoy so much about the riveting historical drama, Reign.

To begin, Reign is a show based around the life of Mary Queen of Scots. The show is set primarily in 16th century France. It encompasses the rise to power, personal, and political strife of this legendary queen who must always watch her back. Surrounding her are other famous characters straight out of the history books, such as Catherine de Medici and King Francis II of France. Of course the show isn't entirely historically accurate, but it does draw on the major events and conflicts of Europe at the time.

One thing I love about this show is that it has something for everyone. You want drama? The latest episode is somehow always more drama-filled than the last. How about romance? This show by no means lacks in the romantics department. Action? From daring sword duels to full-blown war scenes, Reign never fails to be action packed each episode. What about murder and scandal? You could say that Catherine de Medici is the queen of that in this show. Suspense? Just about every episode literally leaves you hanging on the edge of your seat, gasping for more. Furthermore, every person that I know who has watched even just a few episodes of this show becomes instantly hooked. I recommended the show to my mother, even, and she somehow managed to finish the entire first 22-episode season in about 72 hours because she just couldn't stop watching it!

Beyond having just about everything you could possibly want in a television series, the show itself is so well made. The casting of the characters is spot on, and the actors are nothing short of incredible (they're also really easy on the eyes!). Each and every scene is so well-filmed and creatively done. Not to mention the scoring and music in this show is absolutely incredible, In fact, I have a ton of music of my own that I discovered just by watching. As far as scenery and costumes go, this show pulls out all the stops. From filming in the dead of winter to designing countless gown after gown - catered to each of the character's roles - there's good reason that Reignhas 5-star ratings.

In essence, Reign simply does not fail to cease and captivate its viewers through its endless entertainment and glimpse into what life was like for a young queen simply trying to hold on to her own rule. I am truly sad to see such a powerful show come to an end next year after its last season, but for the past few years it has been a wonderful tribute to how one young woman can retain her strength and overcome any obstacle that comes her way.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
