Mary Tyler Moore, beloved female TV icon, died on Wednesday at the age of 80. She influenced so many people throughout her career and will undoubtedly be missed by loved ones and fans alike.

Moore was actively involved with charity work, and various political causes. She was a long-time animal rights activist, that worked with Farm Sanctuary to help raise awareness about the process of factory farming. She also promoted compassionate treatment for farm animals. Moore was co-founder of Broadway Barks, which is an annual adopt-a-thon held in New York City. She and a friend worked to make New York a no-killcity and encouraged people to adopt from shelters. Her influence will be greatly missed.

In addition to the actress' work with animal rights, she was most known for her TV work. She'll be remembered for her starring roles in "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," "The Dick Van Dyke Show," "Ordinary People" and "Flirting with Disaster." Moore was one of the first career-oriented women protagonists on TV. She changed the way viewers thought about female protagonists in a time when such things weren't often questioned. She soon became an icon for the feminist movement.

With such a prolific career and personal life, it's important to remember the wisdom she's leaving behind. Here’s a look at some of her memorable quotes:

1. "You can't be brave if you've only had wonderful things happen to you."

2. "Take chances, make mistakes. That's how you grow. Pain nourishes your courage. You have to fail in order to practice being brave."

3. "Sometimes you have to get to know someone really well to realize you're really strangers."

4. "I live in a kind of controlled awareness. I wouldn't call it fear, but it's an awareness. I know I have a responsibility to behave in a certain way. I'm able to do that."

5. "A human being has been given an intellect to make choices, and we know there are other food sources that do not require the killing of a creature that would protest being killed."

6. "I'm not an actress who can create a character. I play me."

7. "Having a dream is what keeps you alive. Overcoming the challenges makes life worth living."

8. "Behind every beautiful fur, there is a story. It is a bloody, barbaric story."

9. "Worrying is a necessary part of life."

10. "I'm an experienced woman; I've been around... Well, all right, I might not've been around, but I've been... nearby."

11. "I feel about my dogs now, and all the dogs I had prior to this, the way I feel about children — they are that important to me. When I have lost a dog I have gone into a mourning period that lasted for months."

12. "I've had the fame and the joy of getting laughter — those are gifts."

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. Recently I completed my freshman year of college, and boy, what an experience. It was a completely new learning environment and I can't believe how much I learned. In an effort to save time, here are the ten biggest lessons I learned from my first year of college.

1. Everyone is in the same boat

For me, the scariest part of starting school was that I was alone, that I wouldn't be able to make any friends and that I would stick out. Despite being told time and time again that everyone had these same feelings, it didn't really click until the first day when I saw all the other freshman looking as uneasy and uncomfortable as me. Therefore, I cannot stress this enough, everyone is feeling as nervous as you.
