Gene Wilder was nothing short of a comic genius. Sadly, on August 29, Wilder passed away. However, his legacy remains in his work. Known for his comedic and eclectic roles, Gene Wilder has given laughter to so many people over the span of his career. Below are just a few examples of his legendary work.
1. Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory
This is one of his most famous roles. Personally, this movie was a staple of my childhood. "Pure Imagination" is of one the iconic songs of both the show and pop culture. Another scene that I found both terrifying and completely brilliant was the boat ride scene.
In this movie, Wilder was not only zany, but also gave the charisma that the character of Willy Wonka needed.
2. Young Frankenstein
This classic Mel Brooks film about a mad scientist and his monster, is just sidespilitingly hilarious.
3. Blazing Saddles
4. The Producers
Here, he takes on the iconic role of Leo Bloom in the original, "Mel Brooks, The Producers"
5. Death of a Salesman
Along with his comic work, he was also in a TV movie version of "Death of a Salesman," an amazingly written Arthur Miller piece.
6. Alice in Wonderland
Here, Wilder is a Mock Turtle in a version of Alice in Wonderland.
So, whether it's playing a zany, candy factory owner, a mock turtle, or anything in between, Gene Wilder has made everyone not only laugh, but feel.
