Everyone has a style whether it's hipster, laid-back, or preppy. However, sometimes it is difficult to express your style when the major clothing stores are only selling what is "in" that season. Luckily, there is somewhere you can go that has a larger variety of clothing and entertainment: thrift stores! Here's some reasons you should ditch the major companies and visit a local thrift shop the next time you need clothes. Thrift shopping is the newest trend or activity that you and your friends have to try!

1. Individuality.

Unlike major clothing brands, thrift shops typically only have one of each item they have in store, and you're a lot less likely to be caught wearing the same thing as someone else.

2. Variety.

Since the clothes in thrift stores have been donated, they can come from a variety of places and times. You might find yourself with a shirt from halfway across the world or from 1973, who knows? If you love to find bold pieces to tie together boring outfits, thrift stores are the place to be!

3. Availability.

Thrift stores don't have to rotate clothing for seasons. They literally have random things all year long. So if you need a tacky Hawaiian shirt for a themed event in January, thrift stores have you covered! They have random clothes all year long. If you have something specific you're looking for, they generally have it or something that will work!

4. Affordability.

17 items for $20. Who's going to complain about that? I once bought a pair of practically new Birkenstocks at a thrift store for $20; I'm not going to complain about saving that eighty or so dollars. Most thrift stores either have blanket prices for all of their items, or their prices are 50-90 percent off retail. It's always better to get a bigger bang for your buck, and thrift stores are the places to do just that.

5. Entertainment.

Okay, let's be honest, you're not always going to walk out of a thrift stores with tons of deals. In fact, sometimes trips to the thrift store are just plan busts. However, there is one thing those trips won't lack: excitement. Days spent thrifting are guaranteed to be wild rides of nostalgia and confusion. Plenty of throwbacks and "what is this" moments are headed your way!

Whether you need some new clothes for cheap (because college budgets, duh) or you just some excitement in your lackluster Saturday, a trip to a local thrift store is never a waste of time. Most thrift stores are run by local churches or charities, so not only are you getting clothes, you're also helping out the community!

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
