Trends…what can you say? They come and go. It always gets me to think, how do trends come about? Who decides what's cute, and what's not? And why do I fall a victim to trends every time? I promise you, I wouldn't think ripped jeans were fashionable if they weren't in style. But something about items being "in" and trendy brings this weird fascination upon myself to take these trends and put my own spin on them. Here are three trends that I disapproved of before absolutely loving them:
1. Platform Sneakers
I used to think sneakers that had too much material at the bottom looked silly. It was one of the many trends I didn't understand, but I eventually caught on and realized that it could be made cute. I purchased my own pair a few months ago, and I've been sporting them with skin tight jeans or leggings, a cute, bold top, and some fashionable sunglasses if the sunshine calls for them.
2. Jumpsuits
Honestly, I can't believe I used to think these things were hideous. Something about patterned outfits that were one entire piece gave me a pajama vibe that I tried to stay away from. But with large purses, matching belts and adorable sandals being added to the mix: I knew I had to get my own jumpsuit. I purchases a rose patterned jumpsuit from Macy's, and with the right accessories, I can be comfy and cute at many special occasions. Jumpsuits can be pulled off for fancier events that don't quite welcome jeans. Activities from grabbing brunch with your girlfriends to attending open houses throughout the day can allow anyone to pull off a jumpsuit and look incredibly fashionable.
3. Denim Jackets
In the summer heat, it's rare to see anyone wearing a denim jacket. But in the "swinter" weeks, these were going around like crazy. I remember looking at my Instagram feed around March and seeing nothing but girls in denim jackets, from one picture to the next. I never despised denim jackets, I just saw them as something that were fashionable back then, and the trend passing over for decades after. They came back out of nowhere, and I just didn't understand it. Seeing other people make a classic item look more modern inspired me to purchase my own from Forever 21.
