I have a sinus infection. In fact, I submitted this article a day after my deadline because my brain was so clogged up that I had trouble forming coherent sentences (still valid – sorry ¯\_(ツ)_/¯). I actually started experiencing symptoms last week, but I only just got around to visiting the clinic yesterday. I’ve been on antibiotics for the past twenty-four hours, but my health has already begun to improve. I can actually breathe through my nose! If only I had not put off going to the doctor, prioritizing my school work and extra-curricular activities over my own wellbeing, I might have kicked this by now. The point I’m trying to make is this: schoolwork and obligations are important, but so are you. Fall is one of the best seasons (my favorite!), but with its chilly weather comes many germs and bacteria that intend to ruin your weekend plans. Don’t forget to layer up and wash your hands, and don’t eat or drink after anyone!
I’ve also noticed a lot of my friends – and I do this myself – excusing themselves from participating in self-care, placing it at the bottom of his or her to-do list. Self-care should be a top priority, especially during this time of illness and stress. If you find your health deteriorating, mentally or physically, take the time to take care of yourself. Your responsibilities are important, but so are you! Schedule an appointment to visit the doctor, splurge a little bit on good food or new clothes, listen to songs that make you feel warm, et cetera, et cetera!
