The Guidance Girl

Now that summer is coming to an end, it is time for the season of being busy with work, school, and having no free time. Sometimes I feel so overwhelmed with everything coming at me at one time that I become disorganized and forgetful. Over the past years, I have tried numerous things to help with my stress levels. Here are some of the simplest things that you can do that can make a big difference in your life:

1. Give yourself credit

We tend to be our own worst critic. There are times where I would beat myself for such simple things. We often put so much pressure on ourselves that we forget to give ourselves credit. We do not realize how much we do and how well we do things. When I am stressed, I actually realize my mistakes more than what I actually accomplished. We are all human, do not sweat the small stuff. Give yourself a well-deserved pat on the back.

2. Exercise

Yes, I am not lying; exercise really does work. It may seem dreadful and not fun, but exercise can be relaxing. How? When you exercise daily, no matter the fitness level, you become more energized and have a better sense of well being. Physically, exercising helps you sleep better, which in turn reduces stress. Your body will be able to have a better handle on upcoming stress. Go with a partner or start a sport, there are many ways to make exercise fun!

3. Laugh

Something so simple but very effective, laughing is really the best medicine for your mind and body. When you laugh there is a release of tension and increase in happiness. There are both internal and external benefits to laughter. It binds people together and overall can be very rewarding. Good company and conversation can be very beneficial.

4. Remind yourself why

Sometimes you just need to remind yourself the purpose of something. Why are you here, why are you doing this, and why is it important. Often times, I stress myself out and do whatever it takes to get what I need to get done. Sit down, think about the reason and reward. A simple reminder can motivate you to finish what you started.

5. Sleep

Something we take for granted is sleep. A good eight-hour night sleep can really do you some good. Not only does is mentally prepare you for the next day, but it sets the day in the right way. I am guilty of late nights when I know I have to wake up early. Be careful though, too much sleep can put you on the lazy side. I have learned to get a well-rested night and in turn a better day ahead of me.

6. Eating Health

True story, I am addicted to Starbucks coffee, French fries, and cake. Same concept as exercising and sleeping, a better body leads to a better mindset. When I am stressed, I tend to go with fast and fast is usually chips or McDonald’s. Instead, I replaced those with carrots, salad, and hummus. Just watching what I put in my body dramatically changed my stress level.

7. Take a bath

A hot bubble bath is always very relaxing. The hot water relaxes your tense muscles. Also, the quiet environment is very peaceful. Grab yourself a glass of wine and enjoy a bubble bath.

8. Practice time management and planning ahead

Practicing time management and planning ahead can reduce stress because you are more prepared for what is ahead. Many reason of stress is from not being on time and unprepared. Minimizing these will help with your stress. Being organized will help you in the long run.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
