In today's world most of us are overworked and underpaid and lacking free time to spend pampering ourselves. But taking time to treat yourself is vital to staying sane. It is good for you physically, mentally, and emotionally. So here are some ways to treat yoself on a budget.
Buy chocolate right after a big holiday
The few days after almost ever major holiday, Halloween, Valentine's Day, Easter, and Christmas in particular, is a great time to buy candy. Stock up on some fancy Dove chocolate or Reese's eggs right after the holidays and stick them in your freezer to last longer. Plus frozen dark chocolate might be one of my favorite treats to make me feel super fancy.
Splurge on coffee and a doughnut
There is something special about getting your favorite latte and doughnut on the way to class or work. Whether you do it Monday morning as a post-weekend pick me up or Friday morning as a reward for making it through the week, splurging and getting a big one every once in a while is the perfect way to give you just a little extra pep in your step.
Make Spa water at home
It is so easy to make spa water at home. Grab yourself a big pitcher or mason jar of water, slice up a cucumber and ta-da! Bonus points if you add lemon, mint, oranges, strawberries, or any combination of fruit. Infused water is so easy and cheap to make, it is proven to make you drink more water, some combos have other health benefits, and it makes you feel super fancy.
Go all out and have a spa night at home
Every once and a while you just need a full on spa day. Break that spa water out and get yourself ready for night of relaxation. First take a nice hot bath complete with candles, calming music, and bubbles or epsom salt. After your bath you can deep condition your hair super easily at home. Just use your normal conditioner or coconut oil, massage it into your hair, and then leave it in for 20 minutes to overnight (I suggest using a disposable shower cap if you're going to leave it on longer than 20 minutes). Next give yourself a little facial. I typically have a facial scrub or mask lying around in my closet, but it is also super easy to make one from stuff in your kitchen. Green tea, sugar and lemon juice or honey make a great at home scrub. Bonus points if you start by steaming your face over hot water with lemon juice. End the night by laying in bed in your comfiest robe or pj's, calming music, a good book and some tea.
We could all use a little R&R every now and then, but for most of us our budgets won't allow it. These are just a few ways to make you feel super bougie without spending like your super bougie. Because remember:
