You know the drill by now. Either you dread it or you can't get enough of it. Valentine's Day has come and gone once more. Now, while everyone settles back into their regular lives, we're no longer surrounded by pink hearts and romantic gestures. As the threat of finding PDA around every corner dwindles, so does the feeling of love in the air. But who says it has to? Here's a list of ways you can celebrate Valentine's Day every day.
1. Listen to Frank Sinatra and Bobby Darin
Because I know I'm not happy on Valentine's Day unless I get to hear "Beyond the Sea" at least 1,000 times. Will it make you feel just as happy when you listen in March? The answer is yes. Always yes. For the modern equivalent, turn to Michael Bublé. whose songs have appeared in every rom-com known to mankind.
2. Eat chocolate
My favorite part of Valentine's Day is the chocolate. But, if I'm being completely honest, it is also my favorite part of Halloween, Easter, Christmas, and basically any day in between. So do not limit yourself when it comes to these indulgent desserts! Eat your leftover Valentine's Day chocolate and while you're at it, add it to the grocery list this week because the post-Valentine's Day chocolate market can be very generous with their prices.
3. Read some poetry
What could be more romantic than a Shakespearean sonnet? This type of literature can keep you inspired all year long. While you may not have to memorize the verses of the balcony scene anymore for English class, it is still a classic that deserves a read every now and again. If you aren't the biggest literature fan you can skip the written word and stare at Leonardo DiCaprio as young Romeo in the 1996 film adaptation.
4. Do something that warms your heart
Ever get that really warm feeling in your heart after you know you've done something great? I swear, you can get addicted to the feeling of doing good deeds. Get out there and perform some random acts of kindness! I am a huge advocate of the daily practice. If you don't know where to start then think small. Even a $5 donation to your local homeless shelter or helping someone carry their groceries to their car can spur a significant domino effect of generosity and you will feel great about it. Everyone wins!
5. Treat yo'self
I am a firm believer that you do not have to break the bank in order to reward yourself every once in a while. It doesn't have to be about buying new clothes or those new heels you've been eyeing for a month now. Although those are great ways to treat yourself, an even better way includes making a promise to yourself to pursue a hobby more often or finding a completely new one that you enjoy.
6. Tell someone you love them.
Even if you don't have that special someone, we all have someone we love. Use every day to remind them! And while you're at it, remind yourself. You deserve it as much as anyone else.
And if none of these options sound good to you then I guess you'll just have to wait 363 days until you can celebrate the next Valentine's Day.
