I get very anxious before flying. I pick at my nails, wear headphones, tap on the armrests or hold on to them for dear life. It's quite the spectacle, honestly. It's the holidays and I, like a lot of other people, will be traveling very often. If you're like me and you get super nervous before flying, I think I may have a solution for you. Over the last week, I've been traveling a lot and this tip has helped tremendously.
Take off is usually the worst part for me. That's when my thoughts start racing faster than the plane and I'm scrambling for any possible distraction. This week, that distraction was music. The song "Sicko Mode" by Travis Scott featuring Drake has been blowing up since it was released back in August. If you don't know the song, it's basically the "Bohemian Rhapsody" of our time. It's almost hypnotic and easily addictive.
I was on a flight from Orlando International Airport to the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport when I happened to be listening to the song. It coincidentally started playing when we were about to take off and I was drawn so deep into it that I didn't realize we were lifting off into the air. When I finally did notice, I didn't freak out. In fact, I enjoyed it. It was almost surreal that I was content during takeoff.
I decided to listen to the song again when we landed. And then again on the way back to Orlando. And then again when we landed in Orlando. It was like a little miracle landed on my eardrums and made me forget that I was trapped in a tin bird and was about to be thrown thousands of feet into the air. I would conclude that my experiment was a success! Now, I'm not saying this will work for everyone, as we're all different and like different things. All I'm saying is don't knock it 'til you try it!
