Coming from a relatively small town, the mere thought of traveling to exotic places excited my very being. Practically ever since I was a child, I had yearned to travel far, far away, far from my small-town prison. I had wanted to escape my hometown and trade it in for a destination vacation of a lifetime.
I know I am not the only one who feels this way and hope people who have dealt with this problem in the past were able to quench their thirst with adventure. If not, then all hope for myself is down the drain.
Sure, I have gone on vacations, some of which to far off places, but they are too organized and chaperoned to be of any extravagance. I can only assume that when I am finally an adult, free of teacher- and parent-made itineraries and watchful eyes, that I will finally be free. There will come a day, hopefully, when those free situations present themselves, but until then, I will have to settle for my imagination.
It doesn't hurt as well that I can watch countless movies and TV shows about the places I so yearn visit.
I dream of France.
I dream of walking down cobblestone streets, of French music and the smell of pastries wafting in the air, and the Eiffel Tower standing near, proud and fantastical. These are the dreams of Paris which can become real in mere clicks on a computer, yet remain miles away in reality. Everyone everywhere dreams of Paris and the magic it holds, such as its timeless essence and beautiful sights. These are the reasons for my eternal dreams of France. After all, it is not just Paris that sparks my interest; I would also love to travel to Normandy to see the beaches that were stormed only 70 years prior.
I dream of Egypt. I mean, who as never imagined themselves in the desert of Cairo, exploring the Seventh Wonder of the World, the Great Pyramids. Packed with undeniable culture and history, Egypt is the poster child of what it means to live in the world. I have never wanted to travel to a place more than Egypt, and I recommend adding it to to your bucket list. It does help as well that traveling there will cross off traveling to another continent, Africa.
I dream of Japan. A country entirely its own, a country unlike anywhere in the world. I dream of having authentic Japanese cuisine, unlike any American copy. I dream of the sights of the neon cities and the green parks. Japan is, to me, a dream in itself. I only hope it becomes reality.
I dream of going to Cuba. I dream of going to India. I dream of going to Australia. I dream of going everywhere.
It is such a shame that I, a traveler, was born in an area so lacking in adventure. Like every adventure which has come before me, I only hope that where I was born is where I am to die.
