I Choose The Travel Life

"While some people choose to live a 9 to 5 life with family ties and dinner on the table every night, I choose to travel."

I Choose The Travel Life

You could say that I’m wanderer, a drifter or even a dreamer and while I may agree that those things are all true, I would also say, that I’m just your average girl living her life.

I’m just this person, who has always had this itch to be where I’m not, a strong desire to travel or as the wonderful world wide web likes to call it, wanderlust. If I were to ever categorize myself, I would place myself here, with all the other travelers, who have no intention of adulting in the real world. While some people choose to live a 9-5 life with family ties and dinner on the table every night, I choose to travel. I choose a life of uncertainty and adventure. A cloud nine, kinda life where sitting still is not an option.

I think one of the most beautiful things about living a life that truly allows you to spread your wings is meeting like-minded people. It’s this little community of people, who have all come together to break the rules of society, to live without borders in places where our feet get to dance as freely as they wish. We cross oceans, language barriers and cultural differences to end up in a place where we all have one thing in common, traveling.

I choose to travel because I want to see people for who they really are and not for our stereotypical views of how they might be. I don’t know about you but this is the kind of world I wish we would all find ourselves living in. A place where the color of your skin has no relevance, your language tongue is what makes you beautiful and unique to the person standing beside you and where you come from is merely just an added bonus to who you are.

Winnie the Pooh, that cute little bear once said,

“You can't stay in your corner of the Forest waiting for others to come to you. You have to go to them sometimes.”

And while he might just be a silly little bear, who gets his head stuck in jars of honey, on the regular, he has a valid point. A point that we should all listen to and take to heart because like I’ve always said in the past, the world was never made this big for me to just stay in place forever.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
