Over spring break 2017 my family and I traveled down to New Orleans, Louisiana. We went in search of unique architecture, food, and music and that is exactly what we found. We flew out to Louisiana with Spirit Airlines and I normally get pretty bad anxiety while on planes however one of the flight attendants we had made the turbulent flight there pretty enjoyable. She made lighthearted jokes whilst going through standard safety procedures soothing my anxiety and even making me laugh. Another reason why this was probably my favorite flight I've ever been on was because I got a Spirit airlines lucky seat! Basically, one seat on every Spirit plane has a secret surprise of winning 5,000 free travel miles through the airline!
We stayed at the French Market Inn Hotel, built in 1833. This was by far the most beautiful hotel I have every stayed in, the brickwork and layout of the hotel showcased its vintage beauty. After my visit I was researching the hotel, looking for images for this article, and I came across many articles stating that ghostly encounters have been reported, such as the sounds of footsteps and voices, unexplainable cold spots, misty figures being seen and doors opening or closing on their own. There have also been several claims by guests that when they awake, they find bloody handprints on their bed sheets. Luckily I hadn't discovered that prior to my stay as I have a huge fear of those sorts of things but I am happy to report I saw nothing of that nature on my stay!
Our trip was four days long which I feel was a perfect amount of time to see and do everything we had wanted to. The first day we just walked around the french quarter taking in our surroundings and getting a feel for that New Orleans vibe.
The next day we explored some of the infamous Bourbon Street during the day, then later we took a ghosts, voodoo, vampires and witchcraft walking tour with the Witches Brew Tours company. I highly recommend this tour for anyone who goes to New Orleans. It is a perfect mix of history and scare. The stories are all true and they take you to the places they took place.
On our third day, we really indulged and made it our "food day" where we tried a lot of New Orleans classics like beignets from Cafe Du Monde to famous gelato at Sucre and even alligator.
On that day we also went out to the swamps with Airboat Adventures Tours. We rode a boat through the bayou and saw some alligators in their natural habitats. We also got to hold a baby alligator named Tri.
That night we also went to the Frenchman art market, where local artists sell some of their creations in a sectioned off the alleyway.
On our final day, we did some exploring of the beautiful garden district, full of large homes, parks, and cemeteries.
Visiting New Orleans was a very fun experience and the city was unlike any I have ever been to before.
