Everyone makes New Year's resolutions. It's basically a right of passage in our day and age. And to boot, they're always the same few goals: work out more, make more money, travel the world, etc.
But if there is something I've learned from living in multiple countries, it's that traveling often is not always as amazing as it seems.
Exploring and traveling every once in a while can be such a treat and such a special experience, but when it becomes more than a special occasion, you're getting into dangerous territory.
Having to pack your life up and move it across oceans is a lot. Having to buy plane tickets costs a lot.
The whole process can be a bit too much all at once, and it starts to lose its treasure.
After a while, you start going through the motions and not appreciating the little things anymore like how nicely your stewardess was or how lovely your hotel was decorated for the holidays.
Everything becomes duller and less remarkable.
The ruins you see in Greece, Italy and France all seem to blend together, and you forget about the little things that would normally make you fall in love with a new place.
Every vacation becomes a series of photos you have no story behind.
Traveling has taught me more than I could ever have imagined and has shaped me into the young woman I am today. For that, I am forever grateful.
But being oceans away from friends and family is sometimes not worth the hassle of seeing a new country.
Our planet has so many incredible things to see and do, and you don't necessarily have to be the victim of jetlag to experience those incredible things.
Stop making travel "trendy," and start appreciating what you have around you.
